The Pyrenees Race
The history and philosophy of this race
The Pyrenees Edf Race, a world-class mushing race in the top 3 of French races.
Beautiful headliners in the world of mushing came to compete in this edition. A race imagined by a man, Pierre Galvez, professional musher, great enthusiast of the history of great races, who has today realized his dream. Magical, pure sites, with wide white paths for the pleasure of the eyes and glide. Last year’s success, and a doubling number of registrants for this edition, give great prospects to the organizers who are already working on the edition 2.
Ideas full of head, they will propose a national exclusivity in 2021 with a category “duo” …
Enjoy this unforgettable, wild experience!
The Pyrenees Race, the association behind the race, relies on the search for the most natural sites, fleeing urbanization, to offer its competitors a wild environment. A true return to the roots, where the animal regains its wolf instincts… Of course, the race is also in line with the original values of dog sledding. Being with the utmost respect for the animal, the musher and its environment, the
Pyrenees Race is li
stening! Thus, for each day of the race, will be determined a route, a distance, schedules, adapted according to the weather and snow conditions.
Particular attention will be given to athletes (dogs!), by a sharp check of a veterinary team on the physical condition, allowing or not the start.
Practicing mushing is a state of mind… A unique relationship between the animal and the musher, the survival of the musher dependent on his dog!
a true return to basics
Characterized by a great diversity of environments and remarkable species, the Pyrenees massif is a veritable reservoir of biodiversity, with an emblematic fauna. The Pyrenees Race has chosen for its race two magical sites such as the Plateau de Beille and the Nordic Station of Ca
pcir.Situated in the department of Ariège, between Tarascon and Ax-Les-Thermes, above the villages of Cabannes, Albiès and Lassur, the Beille plateau welcomes a first stage between heaven and earth…
Tutusing the peaks with an altitude at the start of the slopes at 1,785 m, Beille enjoys exceptional sunshine and snow. By skiing, snowshoeing or dog sledding, the slopes take you to a distant horizon in the heart of the Ax Valleys, 90 minutes from Toulouse.
We then continue our journey to the Nordic Station of Capcir, in the department of the Eastern Pyrenees… Nicknamed the Nordic South, in the heart of the regional natural park of the Catalan Pyrenees, the site is distinguished by the Quillane pass, which marks, at 1,713 m altitude, the boundary between the municipalities of La Llagonne and Matemale.
The Nordic area of Capcir, an area dedicated to cross-country skiing, or classic Nordic skiing or skating, is labelled “Nordic France”. It offers three white lanes, or sixty kilometers of groomed tracks. If you like the purity of the landscape, you will be conquered!

President of the association
A man who started mushing with only 2 dogs… A long-term job with hours and hours of training! And a passion, that of the history of the big races!
His musher history began in 1987, with the acquisition of a magnificent puppy, siberian husky, as one imagines, grey and white, with blue eyes…
His name was Chuggann… and changed his way of life. Then came Cafka, Deki, Everest, Eagle… A sweet madness took hold of him! The competition quickly came, two years later, to Font-Romeu. In 1990, a new encounter marked his life, that of Jeffrey Joseph Bragg, the man who saved the American lineages of the hitchhiking dogs, the Seppalas. From this meeting in the depths of Spanish Catalonia, the result of chance – or perhaps not!, a friendship was born between these two men. Peter learned a great deal from Jeffrey about the so-called “work” lineages, both from his point of view as a breeder and as a historian.
In the latter field, Pierre translated for his friend the history of Siberian Husky in French! For more than thirty years, this professional musher has been running the biggest international races, and is dedicated every day for the love of his dogs.
